One of the major fights in boxing, the Cotto vs Margarito 2, is scheduled on December 3, 2011 at the Madison Square Garden in New York where Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito will be fighting for the Junior Middleweight Title. But the problem is, the New York Athletic Commission can deny Antonio Margarito's application for license after he applied for one on Oct. 31 because of medical reasons. It means that Antonio Margarito cannot fight in New York if the state of New York will give him a license to fight there.
The sad news was announced after the said hearing where it was attended New York State Athletic Commission chairwoman Melvina Lathan. Antonio Margarito's licensed might not be approve because of medical reasons where the right eye of Margarito was the central topic of conversation. Antonio Margarito had an eye surgery due to his fight with Manny Pacquiao. The athletic commission was concerned about the right eye of Antonio Margarito which was surgically repaired. The hearing was also attended by the commission eye specialist, a doctor from its medical advisory board and two doctors who support Margarito's application, including his eye surgeon.
But Bob Arum announced that the December 3 fight is still on schedule. Bob Arum said that he is not concerned if the athletic commission of the the state of New York will not approve the license of Margarito. Arum also said that there are still venues on his list that he can move the Cotto vs Margarito HBO pay-per-view fight as backups if anything goes wrong. But Bob Arum declined to name the back-up venues but he said that Antonio Margarito has a licensed to fight on these states.
Bob Arum is still hopeful that the New York Athletic Commission will consider approval of Antonio Margarito's licensed to fight in this state despite the eye problems. This issue is still schedule for a votation at a public hearing on Friday where it will be attended by three-person commission, Lathan, Edwin Torres and Thomas Santino.
